Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know before your Jupiter fishing charter. Still have a question? Just call Captain Tom.
How much does a charter cost?
Offshore charters are $775 for a half day (4 hours), $1,150 for a 3/4 day (6 hours) and $1,500 for a full day (8 hours). Inshore trips start at $550. Rates are for the whole boat (up to 6 passengers) and include bait, quality tackle and licenses. Your mate works for tips, which are customarily 20%. See all rates & packages.
How many people can come?
Tom Cat is a 34′ Sea Vee center console licensed for up to 6 passengers. The price is for the boat, not per person — so bring the whole crew.
Can I eat what I catch?
Yes, you certainly can. We clean and fillet any fish you catch that are legal to keep. Take them home, or have a local restaurant cook them for you — Hog Snappers on US 1 here in Jupiter is a great spot that will cook your catch.
How far out do we go?
We’re fortunate here in Jupiter — some of the best fishing grounds are less than 5 miles from the inlet, or under 15 minutes on a good day. You can catch a variety of fish on any given day, but there are definite times of year to target certain pelagic species. To see what’s biting this month, check out our fishing seasons page.
What about bait and tackle?
We supply all the gear and bait you need, including live bait when available.
What time do we leave?
Departure times are flexible and vary by charter. We’ll let you know the best tides and conditions and recommend when to head out — but it’s your choice.
Do I need a deposit?
No deposit required. We just ask that you cancel at least 48 hours in advance, or you will be billed 50% of the charter rate.
What if I need to cancel?
Just let us know 48 hours in advance. It’s a real bummer to get up early, get the boat ready and head to the meeting spot, only to get a phone call that the anglers were out all night and don’t want to go fishing anymore!
What forms of payment do you accept?
Payment is cash or check, with cash preferred — especially for the tip. We do not accept credit cards.
What about the weather?
The Jupiter Inlet can be a nasty place to navigate in rough weather. We usually know the night before what conditions will be like, and if there’s a chance it will be too rough, we’ll cancel. We’ll also give you the opportunity to cancel if you’re worried about getting seasick.
What happens if I get seasick once we’re out?
It can happen. Your group decides whether to stay out or head back in — that’s your call, not ours. If we get out and immediately decide it’s too rough, you can cancel without payment, unless we bought live bait, which is non-returnable and non-refundable.
What should I bring?
We supply all the tackle and have an icebox with ice and water. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and clothing for the conditions — anything from a bathing suit to sweats and a foul-weather jacket. A towel and a camera for photos of the fish you’re going to catch are a good idea too.
Can I bring food and drinks (including beer)?
Our goal is your enjoyment — bring whatever food or beverages you’d like. Just remember to stay hydrated so you can enjoy the day.
What kind of fish will we catch?
Fishing conditions and seasons dictate what we can hope to catch. Target species include mahi-mahi, sailfish, blackfin tuna, bonito, snapper, grouper, amberjack, wahoo, snook, cobia, tarpon, kingfish and Spanish mackerel.
Any last suggestions?
The goal on the Tom Cat is for anglers of all sizes, ages and experience levels to catch fish and have fun. Bring a smile and be ready for a great day on the water!
